South Coast First Aid has also joined forces with HeartSine in an effort to transform Shoalhaven into a Heart Smart Community.
Our aim is to not only raise awareness of sudden cardiac arrest, but to also increase the number of public access defibrillators that will allow for life saving responses to this kind of emergency.
About the program
South Coast First Aid in conjunction with HeartSine would like you to join with us in transforming the Shoalhaven into a Heart Smart community. Our aim is to raise the awareness of sudden cardiac arrest and increase the number of public access defibrillators with the intent of saving lives.
Heart Smart Shoalhaven is a co-operative community solution in the treatment of sudden cardiac arrest by placing AED’s in strategic locations throughout the Shoalhaven. The program will support the community by the provision, placement, maintenance and training of AEDs in public locations.
Aims & Goals
To better protect our community and its visitors against Australia’s biggest killer by:
- Improving the overall response time for victims of sudden cardiac arrest to less than 5 minutes.
- Increase the number of defibrillators in the Shoalhaven community.
- Empowering the public with the skills and knowledge to utilise an AED in an emergency.
- To promote a heart smart community and to increase awareness of heart disease.
- Locate all current AED’s in the community and encourage those businesses to join the Heart Smart Shoalhaven program.
- Empowering bystanders to have the confidence to act as first responders and ultimately reduce time to defibrillation.
What is sudden cardiac arrest?
Sudden cardiac arrest is a life threatening condition where the heart stops beating effectively. It happens without warning and many victims have no prior symptoms.
